Living with silver

Silver tarnishes. That isn't a flaw — but here's how to manage it.

Sterling silver reacts with the air. Left alone in a drawer it will yellow, then darken. This is chemistry, not quality — and it's easy to manage.

Wear it.

Pieces worn daily tarnish more slowly than pieces kept for best. Friction from skin and clothing keeps the surface clean.

“The best thing for silver is skin.”

Store it dry, store it separately.

Keep each piece in its pouch, away from bathrooms and windowsills. Chains tangle and scratch each other; give them their own space.

Polish lightly.

Use the cloth in your box — no dips, no toothpaste. Oxidised pieces from Lowlight shouldn't be polished at all; a dry wipe is enough.
